Summary

Kia America, Inc. is recalling 108,936 vehicles from the 2023 model year, including the Sportage, Sportage Hybrid, Sportage Plug-in Hybrid, Niro Hybrid, Niro Plug-in Hybrid, Soul, and Telluride. These vehicles are equipped with a digital instrument cluster featuring a 4.2-inch LCD screen that may fail to display any information when the vehicle is started. Kia dealers will provide a free software update to resolve this issue and ensure the display functions correctly.

Risk

A blank instrument cluster prevents the driver from seeing critical safety information such as tire pressure, warning lights, and speed, which significantly increases the risk of a crash.

What You Should Do

  1. Check if your vehicle is one of the affected 2023 models: Sportage (Gas, Hybrid, or Plug-in Hybrid), Niro (Hybrid or Plug-in Hybrid), Soul, or Telluride equipped with a 4.2-inch digital instrument cluster.
  2. Contact an authorized Kia dealer to schedule a free appointment to have your vehicle's instrument cluster software updated.
  3. If you have additional questions, contact Kia customer service at 1-800-333-4542 and reference recall number SC270.
  4. You can also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov for more information.
