Hollywood Racks: Destination E Rack Bicycle Carriers Recalled for Potential Bike Detachment

Summary

Hollywood Racks is recalling approximately 7,500 of its Destination E Rack Bicycle Carriers (model HR4500) manufactured during 2022 and 2023. The eyebolt responsible for securing the vertical clamping frame can fail, which may result in a bicycle unexpectedly detaching from the rack. Hollywood Racks will provide owners with two free cam lever-eyebolt assemblies to repair the carrier and ensure bikes remain securely attached during transport.

Risk

If the eyebolt fails, a bicycle can fall off the rack while the vehicle is in motion. This creates a severe road hazard for other drivers or may cause the bike to be dragged behind the vehicle, significantly increasing the risk of a crash.

What You Should Do

  1. Identify your product by checking if you own a Hollywood Racks Destination E Rack Bicycle Carrier with part number HR4500 from the 2022-2023 model years.
  2. Inspect the vertical clamping frame components, specifically the eyebolt that holds the frame in place, for any signs of wear or failure.
  3. Contact Hollywood Racks customer service at 1-800-747-4085 to request your free repair kit, which includes two new cam lever-eyebolt assemblies.
  4. Install the replacement cam lever-eyebolt assemblies according to the manufacturer's instructions before using the rack to transport bicycles again.
  5. For additional information or questions regarding this recall, contact the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov.
