Summary

Approximately 68,000 bicycles from brands including Cannondale, Diamondback, Giant, GT, Nishiki, Schwinn, Scott, and Trek are being recalled because their SR Suntour forks can fail. A bolt connecting the upper and lower parts of the fork can break or separate, which can cause the front wheel to detach while riding. There have been 15 reports of these bolts failing, resulting in two injuries including cuts and bruises. Consumers should immediately stop using the affected bicycles and return them to the place of purchase for a free inspection and repair.

Risk

If the connection bolt breaks, the front wheel can suddenly come off the bicycle, causing the rider to lose control and crash.

What You Should Do

  1. Immediately stop riding your bicycle and check the fork for the 'SR Suntour' brand name on the side stickers.
  2. Locate the serial and model numbers on the back of the fork's crown (the part where the fork legs meet the steer tube). Check the top row for a serial number that begins with 'K' and ends with a number between 141101 and 150127.
  3. Verify if your fork is one of the following recalled models: M3010, M3020, M3030, NEX, or XCT. These model names are found in the second row of text on the back of the fork crown.
  4. If your fork is affected, return the bicycle to the place of purchase or any authorized dealer for a free inspection and repair.
  5. For more information, contact SR Suntour toll-free at 888-820-8458 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. CT Monday through Friday, or visit their website at www.srsuntour-cycling.com and click on the 'Safety Recall Notice'.
