Summary

Bel Air Lighting is recalling approximately 99,700 outdoor wall-mount lanterns due to internal wiring defects that can cause short circuits. These rust-colored cast aluminum lanterns with beveled glass were sold at Lowe's under the 'Portfolio' brand and at lighting showrooms nationwide. The company has received seven reports of incidents, including two instances where the lanterns caught fire. Consumers should immediately stop using these lanterns and contact Bel Air Lighting for a free replacement.

Risk

An electrical short circuit can occur in the lanterns' internal wiring. This defect poses a risk of fire, burns, and electric shock to anyone in contact with or near the fixture.

What You Should Do

  1. Immediately stop using the recalled outdoor lanterns by turning off the power at the circuit breaker.
  2. Identify your lantern by checking for a question mark shaped metal piece connecting the lantern body to the wall-mount plate and a three-light candelabra base cluster inside.
  3. Check the base plate or the light socket label for part number 'E194303' to confirm if your unit is included in the recall.
  4. Verify if you purchased the lantern at Lowe's under the 'Portfolio' brand (item number 253366) or at a lighting showroom (item number 44181) between June 2006 and May 2012.
  5. Contact Bel Air Lighting at 800-446-9092 between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. CT Monday through Friday, or visit www.safety-253366.info to request a free replacement lantern.
