Summary

Volvo Trucks North America is recalling 172 of its 2020-2024 VNR Electric trucks because the high-voltage batteries may have internal defects. Threaded inserts inside the battery may have been over-tightened during manufacturing, which can cause them to break and lead to an electrical short circuit. To resolve this safety hazard, Volvo dealers will replace the affected high-voltage batteries with new ones at no cost to owners.

Risk

An internal electrical short circuit in the high-voltage battery significantly increases the risk of a vehicle fire, which could lead to property damage or injury.

What You Should Do

  1. Check your vehicle's registration and records to determine if you own a 2020-2024 Volvo VNR Electric truck.
  2. If your vehicle is affected, contact your nearest authorized Volvo Trucks dealer to schedule a free replacement of the high-voltage batteries.
  3. You may contact Volvo Trucks customer service at 1-800-528-6586 and reference recall number RVXX2308.
  4. For further information or to check your VIN, visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) website at www.nhtsa.gov/recalls or call the Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153).
