Summary

Ford Motor Company is recalling 61 units of the 2024 Ford Explorer equipped with 3.3L Hybrid engines. The 12-volt battery cable in these vehicles can rub against the starter generator, causing the cable insulation to wear down and short circuit. This defect requires a dealer visit to install a protective tie strap to prevent contact between cables, which Ford will provide free of charge.

Risk

If the battery cable insulation wears through, a short circuit can occur, which significantly increases the risk of a vehicle fire.

What You Should Do

  1. Identify if your vehicle is affected by checking if it is a 2024 Ford Explorer equipped specifically with the 3.3L Hybrid engine.
  2. Contact an authorized Ford dealer to schedule a free repair, where technicians will install a tie strap between the battery cable and high voltage cable to prevent chafing.
  3. Contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 and reference recall number 24S61 if you have questions or to confirm your vehicle's status.
  4. Call the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov for additional information.
