Advance Stores Company, Incorporated: Carquest Lower Ball Joints Recalled Due to Risk of Steering Separation

Summary

Advance Stores Company is recalling approximately 1,546 Carquest Left and Right Lower Ball Joints sold as aftermarket replacement parts. The recalled components include part numbers 410-234673 and 410-234674, which may unexpectedly separate from the vehicle's steering knuckle. If this separation occurs, the driver may lose control of the steering, significantly increasing the risk of a crash. Advance will replace the affected ball joints with new ones at no cost to the consumer.

Risk

The ball joint serves as a critical connection point in the vehicle's suspension; if it separates from the steering knuckle, the wheel can move independently of the steering system, leading to a sudden loss of vehicle control and potential collision.

What You Should Do

  1. Identify if your vehicle has been serviced with aftermarket Carquest Lower Ball Joints by checking your repair receipts or inspecting the parts for part numbers 410-234673 (Left) or 410-234674 (Right).
  2. If you believe these parts are installed on your vehicle, contact Advance customer service immediately at 1-540-561-3509 to arrange for a free replacement of the ball joints.
