Winnebago Industries, Inc.: Travato Motorhomes Recalled for Unintentional Awning Extension

Summary

Winnebago Industries is recalling approximately 8,583 of its 2017-2024 Travato motorhomes because the retractable awning can extend unexpectedly while the vehicle is in motion. This recall expands upon a previous recall (22V-696), and even vehicles that were already repaired under the older recall must be brought in for this new fix. Owners should take their motorhome to a dealer to have a parking brake interlock module installed and the awning firmware updated at no cost.

Risk

If the awning extends unintentionally while driving, it creates a significant distraction for the driver and becomes a physical hazard to other vehicles on the road, which increases the risk of a crash.

What You Should Do

  1. Identify if your vehicle is affected by checking if it is a Winnebago Travato motorhome from model years 2017 through 2024.
  2. Even if your motorhome was previously repaired under NHTSA recall 22V-696, you must still participate in this new recall to receive the updated remedy.
  3. Contact a Winnebago dealer to schedule a free appointment to have a parking brake interlock module installed and the awning firmware updated.
  4. If you have additional questions, contact Winnebago customer service at 1-574-585-6939 or 1-800-537-1885 and reference recall number 176.
  5. For further assistance, you may contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov.
