Carefree Of Colorado is recalling 8,115 Freestyle Gearbox Housings, specifically part number 015933-001. The housing of these gearboxes can develop cracks that may cause the motorized awning to extend on its own without user input, including while the vehicle is in motion. This recall is an expansion of a previous recall (22E-094) for the same safety issue. Carefree will provide additional support for the internal components of the Gearbox Housing to prevent this failure, free of charge.
If the awning extends unexpectedly while the vehicle is in transit, it can distract the driver or strike other vehicles and roadside objects, significantly increasing the risk of a crash.
