Arctic Cat 8000 and 9000 Series Snowmobiles Recalled for Laceration Hazard

Summary

Arctic Cat is recalling approximately 16,200 snowmobiles from the 8000 and 9000 series across model years 2017–2021 and select units from the 2022 model year. The drive clutch on these vehicles can shatter during operation, allowing sharp metal fragments to break through the safety shielding and hit the rider or bystanders. Arctic Cat has received over 200 reports of clutch failure, including six instances where fragments struck consumers, resulting in four reports of minor foot and toe injuries. Owners should immediately stop using the vehicles and contact a dealership for a free inspection and repair.

Risk

The drive clutch can break apart while the snowmobile is running, causing debris to escape the protective housing at high speeds. This creates a severe laceration and impact hazard to the rider and others nearby. At least four injuries involving the feet and toes have already been reported.

What You Should Do

  1. This recall involves all model year 2017-2021 Arctic Cat 8000 and 9000 series snowmobiles, and 2022 Arctic Cat 8000 series snowmobiles with VIN suffixes between NT808000 and NT808150 or between NT100101 and NT101060.
  2. Check your vehicle's identification number (VIN) to see if it is included in the recall. The VIN is stamped into the tunnel near the right-side footrest and is also located on a decal under the seat.
  3. Immediately stop using any recalled snowmobile to prevent potential injury from clutch failure.
  4. Contact an authorized Arctic Cat dealership to schedule a free inspection of the primary clutch and the installation of a new clutch guard. If the inspection reveals a cracked primary clutch, it will be replaced at no charge.
  5. For further assistance, contact Arctic Cat at 800-279-2281 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. CT Monday through Friday, email arcticcatwarranty@textron.com, or visit https://arcticcat.txtsv.com/owners/recalls to check your VIN eligibility.
