Summary

Apollo America is recalling approximately 50,000 combination smoke and carbon monoxide (CO) detectors, model 51000-600. These white detectors can malfunction and fail to alert residents to a fire or carbon monoxide leak, which could lead to smoke inhalation, CO poisoning, or death. The units were sold exclusively by Vivint through their website, door-to-door sales, and telephone sales between June and October 2024. No incidents or injuries have been reported at this time.

Risk

The internal components can fail to sound the alarm when smoke or carbon monoxide is present. This failure removes the primary warning for residents, significantly increasing the risk of serious injury or death during a fire or gas leak.

What You Should Do

  1. This recall involves white Apollo America Combination Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detectors (model 51000-600) with 'Replace by' dates on the front ranging from 2034/June to 2034/October.
  2. Check the back of your detector for the 'Apollo' brand and model number 51000-600, then check the front for the 'Replace by' date to see if your unit is affected.
  3. Continue using the recalled detector until you receive a replacement; Vivint is sending a free replacement detector to all known purchasers.
  4. Install the replacement detector immediately once it arrives. After installation, write 'recalled' on the old unit, remove the batteries, and dispose of the detector in your regular household garbage.
  5. Dispose of the primary lithium batteries separately; do not throw them in the trash or curbside recycling. Take them to a local municipal household hazardous waste collection center or a battery recycling box at a retail home improvement store.
  6. Contact Vivint toll-free at 800-281-9667, email recalls@vivint.com, or visit www.vivint.com/smoke-co-recall to verify your unit's status or track your replacement.
  7. Call the CPSC at 800-638-2772 for additional information regarding this recall.
