Summary

Angelcare is recalling approximately 600,000 Movement and Sound Baby Monitors after reports of two infant deaths. The monitors include a sensor pad with an 11-foot cord that is placed under the crib mattress; if a child pulls this cord into the crib, it can wrap around their neck and cause strangulation. The affected units include model numbers AC1100, AC201, AC300, AC401, AC601, and 49255 that were sold without rigid cord covers between 1999 and 2013. Angelcare is providing a free repair kit that includes rigid cord covers to secure the sensor pad cables.

Risk

The 11-foot cord connected to the sensor pad can be pulled into the crib by an infant, creating a loop that can wrap around the child's neck. This has resulted in two reported fatalities of infants aged 8 and 13 months, as well as two additional reports of entanglement.

What You Should Do

  1. Check the back of your nursery monitor unit for the following model numbers: AC1100, AC201, AC300, AC401, AC601, or 49255.
  2. Identify if your monitor already has rigid cord covers; if it does not, it is part of this recall.
  3. Immediately ensure all monitor cords are placed completely out of reach of your child and away from the crib.
  4. Contact Angelcare toll-free at (855) 355-2643 between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, or email Consumers@angelcare.ca to order a free repair kit.
  5. Visit www.angelcarebaby.com and click on the safety notice section to order the free repair kit online.
  6. Install the rigid cord covers from the repair kit immediately upon receipt according to the provided instructions.
  7. For additional questions, contact the CPSC Hotline at 800-638-2772.
