Summary

Amerisun has recalled approximately 34,600 PowerSmart gas-powered 2-stage snow blowers because a pulley bolt can loosen, causing the machine to get stuck in drive mode. This recall involves red and black model years 2015 through 2017. Amerisun has received 20 reports of loose pulley bolts, including eight reports of the snow blower becoming stuck in drive mode, though no injuries have been reported. These units were sold at Home Depot, Amazon, eBay, Lowe's, and Walmart between July 2015 and February 2018 for between $500 and $800.

Risk

The pulley bolt can loosen and cause the snow blower to remain stuck in drive mode even when the controls are released. This poses a significant injury hazard as the operator may lose control of the machine's movement.

What You Should Do

  1. Immediately stop using the recalled PowerSmart snow blower until you have inspected the pulley bolt.
  2. Identify if your snow blower is affected by checking the PowerSmart sticker on the metal auger housing just below the chute for model numbers DB7103-24, DB7103-26, DB7651-24, DB7659H-22, DB7659-22, DB7103PA-26, or DB7103PA-28.
  3. Verify the serial number on the bar code sticker located below the PowerSmart sticker to see if it falls within the recalled ranges (e.g., for model DB7651-24, ranges include 0011505765102400001 through 0011709710802403286).
  4. Follow the pulley bolt inspection instructions provided by the manufacturer at https://powersmartusa.com/pages/bolt-inspection-instruction-sheet.
  5. If you identify a loose pulley bolt, contact Amerisun at 800-791-9458 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET or email support@amerisuninc.com to receive a free repair kit or instructions for a free professional tightening.
