Summary

Approximately 45,000 Kawasaki 19.2v cordless drills (model 691761) are being recalled because the trigger switch can short circuit and generate excessive heat. There have been 33 reports of incidents related to this defect, including one minor burn injury. These green and black drills were sold exclusively at Costco stores nationwide from May 2011 through February 2012. Consumers should immediately stop using the drills and can register for a free replacement drill including shipping.

Risk

The internal trigger switch can short circuit, causing the drill to overheat. This poses a significant burn hazard to the user if the tool becomes too hot to touch or if the switch ignites nearby materials.

What You Should Do

  1. Check the right side of your drill for a label containing model number 691761 and look for specific serial numbers beginning with 11030, 11040, 11060, or 11070.
  2. Verify if your drill's serial number falls within these ranges: 11030 30201 to 11030 33656; 11040 00001 to 11040 17120; 11060 00001 to 11060 07340; 11070 00001 to 11070 05984; or 11070 16801 to 11070 20640.
