Summary

All American Meats, Inc. is recalling approximately 167,427 pounds of various ground beef products including 80-lb and 60-lb boxes of 80% Lean, 73% Lean, 85% Lean, and 81% Lean varieties. These products were produced on October 16, 2015, and shipped to retail locations nationwide with a Sell By date of 11-03-2015. The recall was initiated because the meat may be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7; consumers should immediately throw the product away or return it to the place of purchase for a refund.

Risk

The beef may contain E. coli O157:H7, a bacterium that can cause severe stomach cramps, bloody diarrhea, and dehydration. In some cases, especially in children and the elderly, it can lead to hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS), a potentially life-threatening type of kidney failure.

What You Should Do

  1. Check your refrigerator or freezer for ground beef with the establishment number 'EST. 20420' inside the USDA mark of inspection and a 'Sell By' date of 11-03-2015.
  2. Identify if your product matches one of the following case codes: 62100, 60100, 68560, 68160, 63130, or 63100.
  3. Do not consume any affected ground beef products.
  4. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.
  5. Wash hands with warm, soapy water for at least 20 seconds after handling raw meat and thoroughly clean any surfaces, dishes, or utensils that came into contact with the product.
  6. For additional questions, contact the USDA Meat & Poultry Hotline at 1-888-674-6854.
