Blue Bird Body Company: 2021-2024 All American and Vision School Buses Recalled for Air Pressure Gauge Failure

Summary

Blue Bird Body Company is recalling approximately 1,424 school buses, including certain 2021-2024 All American models and 2021-2022 Vision models. A software error in the instrument cluster can cause the air pressure gauges and the low air warning systems (both visual and audio) to stop working correctly. This means the vehicle does not meet federal safety standards for air brake systems. Owners of these buses should contact a dealer to receive a free software update for the instrument cluster.

Risk

If the air gauges and warning systems fail, a driver may not be alerted to a loss of air pressure in the braking system. This can result in the vehicle being driven without functioning brakes, significantly increasing the risk of a crash.

What You Should Do

  1. Check your vehicle's model and manufacture year to determine if it is a 2021-2024 Blue Bird All American or a 2021-2022 Blue Bird Vision school bus.
  2. Identify if your bus is part of this recall by contacting Blue Bird customer service at 1-478-822-2242 and referencing recall number R23CH (School Bus).
  3. Contact an authorized Blue Bird dealer to schedule a free update for your instrument cluster software.
  4. For additional information or to check your VIN, you can contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov.
