Summary

Packaging Tape Inc. is recalling about 2,800 air movers and blowers, specifically models OPS-2500-CF, OPS-2500-CFR, and OPS-2200Y-CF. These units are used to dry floors and were sold between February 2008 and December 2010. The internal thermal switch can fail, causing the motor to overheat and potentially start a fire. There have been eight reports of incidents, including four fires, with one fire resulting in approximately $225,000 in property damage. Consumers should immediately stop using these blowers and contact the company for a full refund.

Risk

The blower's thermal switch can fail to shut off the motor during an overheat condition, allowing the motor to reach temperatures high enough to ignite the plastic housing. This has already resulted in four reported fires and significant property damage.

What You Should Do

  1. Immediately stop using the recalled air movers and blowers and unplug them from electrical outlets.
  2. Identify your unit by checking the model number on your sales invoice: affected models include black units (OPS-2500-CF and OPS-2500-CFR) and yellow units (OPS-2200Y-CF).
  3. Look for the CleanFreak.com logo and phone number on a white label with green lettering on the front, or a silver or yellow label on the back of the device.
  4. Contact Packaging Tape toll-free at (855) 800-1091 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday to receive instructions on how to obtain a full refund.
  5. You can also visit www.CleanFreak.com and click on the 'Recall Alert!' button for additional information and refund procedures.
