Summary

BMW of North America, LLC is recalling 3 model year 2025 530i and 540i xDrive vehicles because the air bag control unit may have been manufactured incorrectly. This manufacturing defect can result in air bags that do not deploy as intended during a crash. Since these specific vehicles were identified before being sold from dealer inventory, the remedy will be performed at the dealership level before delivery to customers.

Risk

If the air bag control unit fails to function correctly during a collision, the air bags may not deploy, significantly increasing the risk of occupant injury during a crash.

What You Should Do

  1. Confirm if your vehicle is one of the 3 affected 2025 530i or 540i xDrive models by contacting BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417 or by using the NHTSA recall look-up tool at www.nhtsa.gov/recalls.
  2. Dealers will replace the air bag control unit, free of charge. The vehicles have not been sold from dealer inventory and therefore no owner letters will be mailed. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.
  3. If you have additional questions or concerns, contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153).
