VinFast Auto, LLC: 2022-2024 VinFast VF8 Recalled for Inactive Air Bag Ignitors

Summary

VinFast Auto, LLC is recalling 225 model year 2022-2024 VF8 electric SUVs because the air bags may contain inactive ignitors. This manufacturing defect means that the air bags may not inflate when needed during a vehicle collision. To resolve this safety issue, VinFast dealers will replace the affected air bag modules with new, functioning units free of charge.

Risk

If the air bag ignitors are inactive, the air bags will fail to deploy during a crash. This significantly increases the risk of serious injury or death to the driver and passengers because the primary restraint system will not provide the necessary protection during an impact.

What You Should Do

  1. Check if your vehicle is a 2022, 2023, or 2024 VinFast VF8 SUV.
  2. Contact VinFast customer service at 1-833-503-0600 and reference recall number VPAC-291 to determine if your specific Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) is among the 225 units affected.
  3. Schedule an appointment with an authorized VinFast service provider to have the air bags replaced free of charge.
  4. Review the owner notification letter mailed on June 21, 2024, for additional details regarding the service process.
  5. For further information, you may contact the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov.
