Volkswagen Group of America, Inc.: 2022-2023 Audi Q4 E-Tron Vehicles Recalled for Tearing Air Bags

Summary

Volkswagen Group of America is recalling approximately 5,224 Audi Q4 E-Tron SUV and Sportback vehicles from the 2022 and 2023 model years. During a crash where the head curtain air bag deploys, it can catch on the door seal and expose a metal inlay, which may cause the air bag to tear. This defect means the vehicle fails to meet federal safety standards for protecting passengers from being ejected during a collision. Audi dealers will fix this issue by installing special cloth tape over the door seal area free of charge.

Risk

If the head curtain air bag tears during deployment, it will not be able to protect passengers as intended. This increases the risk of serious injury or death during a crash because the air bag may not properly cushion occupants or prevent them from being ejected from the vehicle.

What You Should Do

  1. Confirm if your vehicle is affected by checking for these specific models: 2022-2023 Audi Q4 E-Tron SUV and 2022-2023 Audi Q4 E-Tron Sportback.
  2. Contact an authorized Audi dealer to schedule a free repair; dealers will install protective cloth tape in the driver and front passenger B-pillar areas to prevent the door seal from damaging the air bag.
  3. If you have further questions, contact Audi customer service at 1-800-253-2834 and reference recall number 69FA.
