Summary

Toyota is recalling approximately 96,007 model year 2022-2023 Corolla Cross vehicles because the front-passenger air bag may not deploy correctly during a crash. The vehicle's instrument panel may have been manufactured without the necessary perforations required for the air bag to break through the surface upon inflation. Toyota dealers will inspect the dashboard and replace the instrument panel free of charge if the perforation is missing.

Risk

If the instrument panel lacks the required perforation, the front-passenger air bag might be blocked or delayed during a collision, failing to protect the occupant and significantly increasing the risk of serious injury.

What You Should Do

  1. Check if you own a 2022 or 2023 Toyota Corolla Cross by looking at your vehicle registration or the manufacturing label located on the driver-side door jamb.
  2. Contact a local Toyota dealer to schedule a free inspection of your vehicle's instrument panel to determine if it requires replacement.
  3. If you have further questions, contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331 and mention recall number 23TB04 or 23TA04.
  4. For additional information, you may call the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov.
