Agri Trails Coop: Rolled Corn and Horse Feeds Recalled for Elevated Fumonisin Levels

Summary

Agri Trails Coop has recalled approximately 24,240 pounds of rolled corn and horse feed mixtures, including Bill Jackson and Olsen Bros brands, because they contain elevated levels of fumonisin. Fumonisin is a toxin produced by mold that can grow on corn. The affected products were distributed in bulk to horse growers in Kansas between October and November 2018. If you have any of these feeds remaining, you should immediately stop using them and return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.

Risk

Elevated levels of fumonisin can be toxic to horses, potentially causing a fatal neurological disease called equine leukoencephalomalacia or severe liver damage. Exposure to these toxins could result in serious injury or death to horses.

What You Should Do

  1. Check your records or storage bins to identify if you received bulk shipments of Rolled Corn, Bill Jackson Horse Feed (lot 10-2-18-13), or Olsen Bros Horse Feed (lots 10-8-18-42, 10-17-18-81, or 10-26-18-31).
  2. Immediately stop feeding any of these products to your horses.
  3. Identify the specific affected lots: for Bill Jackson Horse Feed, look for lot number 10-2-18-13; for Olsen Bros Horse Feed, look for lot numbers 10-8-18-42, 10-17-18-81, and 10-26-18-31.
  4. Return any remaining product to the place of purchase for a full refund or contact Agri Trails Coop at their Navarre, Kansas location for further instructions.
  5. If your horses have consumed these products and show signs of illness or unusual behavior, contact your veterinarian immediately.
  6. For additional questions, contact the FDA Consumer Complaint Coordinator for your region at 1-888-463-6332.
