Summary

Thermo King Corp. is recalling approximately 1,503 Tripac-3 Auxiliary Power Units (APU) with part number 800908 that were manufactured between April 8, 2024, and May 15, 2024. These units contain mounting bolts that are too short and can loosen over time during vehicle operation. If the bolts fail, the APU could detach from the vehicle and fall into the roadway, creating a significant hazard for other motorists. Authorized dealers will inspect the mounting kits and replace the short bolts with correct hardware free of charge.

Risk

The mounting bolts are too short to properly secure the unit, which can cause them to vibrate loose and lead to the entire power unit detaching from the vehicle while in motion. This creates a road hazard that significantly increases the risk of a crash for the driver and other vehicles.

What You Should Do

  1. Identify if your vehicle is equipped with a Thermo King Tripac-3 Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) with part number 800908.
  2. Verify the manufacturing date of your APU to see if it falls between April 8, 2024, and May 15, 2024.
  3. Contact an authorized Thermo King dealer to schedule a free inspection and replacement of the APU mounting bolts.
  4. For additional information or to speak with customer service, contact Thermo King at 1-952-887-2200.
  5. You may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov.
