Summary

Academy Sports + Outdoors is recalling approximately 6,600 Girls BCG Hooded Windsuits in sizes XS through L. These two-piece sets, consisting of a water-resistant jacket and pants, have drawstrings in the hood that pose a dangerous strangulation risk to children. The windsuits were sold in three color combinations: pink/black, gray/blue, and purple/light purple between September and October 2013. No injuries have been reported, and consumers can choose to either remove the drawstring or return the set for a full refund.

Risk

The drawstring in the hood can become entangled with playground equipment, fences, or other objects, posing a serious strangulation hazard to young children. Federal law prohibits drawstrings in the hoods of children's outerwear because of this risk.

What You Should Do

  1. Check the label sewn inside the left side of the jacket to see if it matches style number SGBCGA9001 and belongs to sizes XS, S, M, or L.
  2. Verify the SKU on the label against the following affected codes: XS (0024229635, 0024229486, 0024229569), S (0024229643, 0024229494, 0024229577), M (0024229650, 0024229502, 0024229585), or L (0024229668, 0024229510, 0024229593).
  3. Immediately remove the drawstring from the hood of the jacket to eliminate the strangulation hazard.
  4. Alternatively, return the windsuit to any Academy Sports + Outdoors store for a full refund.
