Hyundai Motor America: 2018 Santa Fe Sport Recalled Due to ABS Module Fire Risk

Summary

Hyundai is recalling approximately 44,396 of its 2018 Santa Fe Sport vehicles because the Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) module may malfunction and cause an internal electrical short. This defect can lead to a fire in the engine compartment while the vehicle is being driven or even when it is parked and the engine is off. This recall is an expansion of a previous recall for the same issue, and Hyundai dealers will replace the ABS multi-fuse at no cost to owners.

Risk

An electrical short within the ABS module can trigger a fire in the engine compartment, which significantly increases the risk of injury or property damage. Because these fires can occur while the vehicle is parked and the ignition is off, owners are urged to park their vehicles outdoors and away from structures until the repair is performed.

What You Should Do

  1. Park this vehicle outdoors, away from structures — do NOT park in a garage or near buildings due to the risk of a fire occurring while the engine is off.
  2. Check if you own a 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport by looking at your vehicle registration or the sticker inside the driver-side door jamb.
  3. Contact any Hyundai dealer to schedule a free appointment to have the ABS multi-fuse replaced.
  4. If you have questions, contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460 and reference Hyundai recall number 237.
  5. You may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov for more information.
